Allen-Bradley / Rockwell 1746-IA16

Discontinued

Analysis reviewed: September 12, 2026

What should replace this part?

The verified replacement is 5069-IA16 + 1492-CM1746-M01. This is an engineering replacement, not a drop-in swap.

Swap to the 5069-IA16 with the M01 conversion module — the AC field wiring carries over

Your options

5069-IA16 + 1492-CM1746-M01 conversion module
The Compact5000 AC input module plus the conversion module that preserves the SLC field terminations. The program converts from RSLogix 500 to Studio 5000 alongside the hardware.
Repair the installed SLC module
Rockwell flags this catalog as repairable, so a failed module can bridge the changeover while the Compact5000 chassis is planned. Use the bridge for timing, not as the end state.

What will need to change?

HardwareThe SLC chassis leaves and a Compact5000 chassis with the 5069-IA16 takes its place. One distributor guide names a different conversion module, but two OEM documents agree on the M01.
WiringThe M01 conversion module keeps the existing 85-132VAC field terminations. Check each field device against the 5069 electrical specification before re-landing wires.
SoftwareRSLogix 500 gives way to Studio 5000. Convert the program and retest I/O mapping and timing on the bench before cutover.
I/OThe count and AC input class stay at 16 points, but the module now lives on Compact5000 instead of the SLC rack. Revisit input filtering and scan-time assumptions in the new platform.

For anything not listed here, check the replacement manual against your existing configuration.

Technical evidence

The recommendation above is based on the sources listed here. OEM source means the manufacturer published it; third-party source means a distributor, repair company or reseller states it. Confidence reflects how directly those sources support the recommendation: High — directly supported by manufacturer documentation. Medium — supported by family-level, secondary, or otherwise less-direct evidence. Low — limited or indirect evidence; verify independently before ordering.
